The World Cup starts today.
Which means I am a kid in a candy shop.
Not just because I love soccer or wrote Landon Donovan’s memoir.
But because for the first time in 50 years I am going to witness a World Cup game live.
I know there’s a big to do about the cost of ticket prices.
I totally get that.
But I am totally going.
What is the point of money if you don’t use it on the experiences that bring you joy?
So…
I am taking my son to a game in LA.
I am taking a client-turned-friend to another.
I am flying to Canada to join a client who is taking me.
I am riding solo to Seattle the next AM to experience USA vs Australia.
Bucket list items are meant to be checked off the list.
Now On To Share Something Courageous…
At the 2002 World Cup, I watched the United States wear swag that said “The States”.
I despised this choice.
This year I hope they get the assignment.
It has nothing to do with “The States”.
It has everything to do with “United”.
Red States people are talking over Blue States people.
Blue States people think they know better than Red States people.
Enough already.
For one month, can we be Red, White and Blue State people?
This team has an obligation to bring us together.
The last time the country may have been united?
When Landon scored against Algeria in extra time helping the USA advance out of the group stage.
That was 16 years ago!
Here’s the goal.
Here’s “US” United.
Enjoy the World Cup.
See a game if you can.
Here’s to optimism:
My #1 core value.
Go USA!
