Ever notice how easy it is to turn a molehill into a mountain?
We all do it.
A small comment becomes a big story.
A tiny setback ruins an entire day.
A minor issue steals major energy.
Somewhere along the way, we start majoring in minor.
One of my favorite lines comes from my friend Mandy Salas:
“What you focus on gets bigger.”
She’s right.
Focus on a molehill long enough and your mind will happily turn it into a mountain.
Meanwhile, the truly important goals—the ones that shape our future—quietly wait for our attention.
That’s backwards.
The biggest things in your life deserve the biggest energy.
There’s a reason bold ambitions are called a BHAG—a Big Hairy Audacious Goal. I prefer: CHAG — Crazy Hairy Audacious Goal.
Because the big stuff is supposed to feel a little scary.
So how do we keep the big thing BIG?
- Name your BHAG out loud. Big goals shrink when they stay vague.
- Ask the filter question: “Will this matter in a year?”
- Protect your prime energy for real priorities.
- Zoom out before you zoom in. Perspective beats panic.
Life will always hand you molehills. Turning them into mountains? That part is optional.
This week, pay attention to what you’re paying attention to.
If it’s small—shrink it.
If it’s big—feed it.
Whatever you do…
Don’t major in minor.
