You wake up. It’s still there.

That idea you haven’t tackled yet, and can’t shake.

Ever have an idea drop into your head and it just won’t go away? When one sticks around, I believe it’s there for a reason. I trust the universe. I have to get it OUT and see it through.

This turns me into a “Ruler.”

No, not a Genghis Khan or an Ivan the Terrible.

“Rulers” set rules to push their big projects forward.

If you’ve got a courageous project but feel time-starved, rules can help define what you will and won’t do.

Rules can help you:

  • limit distractions
  • enforce regular action
  • reduce procrastination
  • carve out time

 A few rules might be:

“I will work on this task for at least two hours every morning without checking email or social media.”

“I’ll complete three action items every day, no matter how small.”

“I’ll start my work on this task within five minutes of sitting down.”

When I turn myself into a “Ruler,” I rely on my two best friends:

  1. My Calendar: Trusting “my word” alone often isn’t enough. Blocking time on my calendar solidifies commitment and boosts completion rates far beyond my willpower or verbal promise.
  2. My Accountability Partner: One more rule: “I’ll check in with my accountability partner monthly.” This rule can keep me going even when motivation fades. Think about who you’d declare for an accountability partner — just by verbalizing the project is that first initial victory to making your project real. Need help locking in your accountability partner? Reach out here and I will connect you to someone in our courageous community who can help.

Instead of feeling weighed down by the idea, become a Ruler, set rules, and see it through!
